EMG/NCS/SSEP

Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)

Nerve conduction studies comprise of the measurement of electrical function of nerves in your arms and legs. Tiny electrical pulses are used to stimulate the nerve and recordings are made using electrodes placed over the nerve or muscle.

Electromyography (EMG)

In this test, a small needle is inserted into the muscle and the electrical activity is recorded and analysed. EMG results can diagnose nerve dysfunction, muscle dysfunction or neuro-muscular junction disorders.

Somatosensory Evoked Potential Test (SSEP)

SSEPs stands for somatosensory evoked potentials. These are signals sent from your nerves and brain in response to physical stimulation. These signals are recorded and analysed to help us see how well your nerves and nervous system are working. Sensory nerves that cause sensations in the arms and/or legs are tested by this test.

This test is performed by stimulating the nerves in the arm and leg with electrical impulses and recording the response from the brain and other parts of the body. The responses are recorded by a computer and the tests interpreted afterwards by a doctor in the department.
